My daughter Alicia was born profoundly deaf at birth
She is now a mother of two beautiful young boys and has decided to investigate a cochlear implant at the University of Southampton Auditory Implant Service.
Her journey starts with a hearing and speech test, plus a look at the devices available to her. She has a number of additional visits to establish the best ear to implant.
This will be decided by the surgeon having looked at her MRI scans.
My daughter has been offered her Cochlear Implant on the 30th November…. Fingers crossed 🤞
My daughter was diagnosed to be profoundly deaf at birth. This devastating news introduced me to the deaf world and deaf culture. I then passed Stage1 in British Sign Language though my daughter chose not to sign!
I soon learned that some deaf people actually see there deafness as NOT a disability but a Culture with its own language.
My daughter inspired me to qualify as an Audiologist and helped me empathise with the issues surrounding deafness.
